"Different, but together"/ Analyst's advice to parents: Work with social reinforcers

In today's episode of the podcast "Different, but together", analyst Genta Kapllani showed that the approach to children with autism must be long-term.

Kapllani stated that a parent's scolding of a child is in itself punishment. But according to her, punishment is a momentary stop that does not teach the child anything.

Among other things, he emphasized that it is recommended that parents work with social reinforcers, such as a kiss or a hug.  

"The approach must be long-term. Scolding is a punishment in itself. Punishment stops a behavior, whatever the type of behavior, aggressive or problematic, it does not teach anything. Every parent motivates children through reinforcement. The recommendation is to be able to work with social reinforcers. This is because we have weapons with us. We have with us a kind word, a hug, a kiss. It is important that we use these in the right place", said Kapllani. /CNA
