Competition ends/ Winner announced for the redevelopment of the Congress Palace

The winner of the international competition for the redevelopment of the Palace of Congresses and the development of the new multifunctional tower to be built in the complex has been announced.

The winning project was presented by the consortium led by Herzog & de Meuron Basel Ltd, in collaboration with Julian Beqiri, Marsela Demaj, Michel Desvigne Paysagiste (MDP), Gentian Shkurti, SUEB INDUSTRIES sh.pk, The Space Factory Ltd and KLAR sh.pk.

According to the architects, the proposed concept aims to preserve the identity of the existing building through minimal interventions, while respecting the historical and architectural values ??of the Palace of Congresses. The project envisages the creation of new public spaces and the integration of greenery throughout the complex.

One of the main elements of the project is the construction of a new urban square, conceived as an open area for citizens. The space will be connected to the lower levels through a system of green terraces, creating an environment resembling an urban forest in the heart of the city.

Interventions within the building include the modernization of technical and acoustic conditions, the reconstruction of the roof with a new steel structure, and the addition of six conference rooms with a total capacity of around 1,600 people.

The project also includes the construction of a multifunctional tower that will combine office and hotel spaces, turning the complex into a new center for cultural, business and event activities.

The evaluation jury suggested that during the further stages of the project's development, some elements of the tower be reviewed, particularly the height and treatment of the upper part, with the aim of improving its relationship with the surrounding public spaces.

The jury called on the winners to consider the height of the tower and the upper part to improve public spaces.
