The passing of Vasil Kostas/Peleshi: The first campaign without a special friend

MP Niko Peleshi has expressed his regret over the sad news of Vasil Kosta's passing. As Peleshi says, this is the first campaign without a special friend.

In a post on social media, accompanied by a photo they took together some time ago, Peleshi says that Vasil Kosta was one of his close people and special friends.

Peleshi says that Vasil Kosta, or Vaska as he called him, was a rare Korçar, a friend who worried and to whom he went every day after the campaign.

Peleshi says that now he will lack a point of reference in his campaigns and it will create a void that even politicians, who are first and foremost human beings, feel.

"Political campaigns have a lot of words, a lot of promises, debates, internal and external disputes, in short, a lot of pragmatism. But winning campaigns have several other, invisible elements that make them so. One of them is emotion, that is, the vocation that stems from a good public purpose.

Electoral pragmatism is so strong that there is little room left for this spiritual part. Only close people and special, very special friends understand it and nurture it with kindness. One of these, the most special, was Vaska. At the end of every tiring day of the campaign, I would go to his salon. I wanted to hear the kind and gentle word of a rare Korçar, of a socialist much older than me (sometimes he seemed to me like the first socialist and the last socialist), of a friend who worries about your worries as if they were his own. I will never forget Vaska's eyes that tried to penetrate my predictions for the result, just before the vote counting began.

This time Vaska, the reference point in my campaigns, will be absent.

Perhaps few understand the greatness of the common man, but I decided to share this feeling of emptiness with you, also as an appeal to not forget that before we are politicians, we are people with hearts.

"Maybe it's worth it for all of us to become better," Peleshi writes./CNA
