The law "On whistleblowing and whistleblower protection" is approved

The Chairman of the Laws Committee, Ulsi Manja, stated that the law "On whistleblower protection" is also in place in European Union countries. Manja said that this draft law should not be conceived as licensing spies, a concept which, according to him, is offensive.

"European countries like Italy also have this law. It adapted it in 2023 to EU standards. France and Britain as well. And in these countries it is not said that spies are being licensed. The US not only has legislation in this regard but in 2010, they also approved a legal mechanism as a proposal by congressmen for the payment of financial whistleblowers. It is a law that comes at the right time and moment. If in 2016 we had questions because it was a new practice, today after 9 years, the sense of discussion in this committee should be how to make this law more enforceable. This starts with the language we use. If this committee will speak with the language of licensing spies, which is offensive, of course the opposition seeks to create the opposite effect in the fight against corruption ," said Manja.

The draft law was approved in principle in the committee by a majority vote. Tomorrow, the law will be reviewed article by article and then discussed in the plenary session. /CNA
