The Ministry of Defense has refuted the Greek media which wrote that Albania did not invite Greece to the inauguration of the NATO air base in Kuçovo.

In the clarifying response, the ministry emphasizes that on February 14, it received the answer that due to predetermined commitments, Defense Minister Dendias would not be able to participate in the March 4 ceremony.

In his place, senior officials from the Embassy of Greece in Tirana participated in the ceremony. 

"Albania and Greece enjoy a very good level of cooperation in the field of security and defense as dedicated allies of NATO. We are grateful to Greece (and Italy) who for years have carried out Air Policing for our country.

With the same purpose, on January 29, the Minister of Defense of Albania sent an official invitation to his Greek counterpart to pay an official visit to Albania, coinciding at the same time with the inauguration ceremony of the Kuçova Tactical Air Base.

 On February 14, we received the answer that due to pre-arranged commitments, Defense Minister Dendias would not be able to participate in the March 4 ceremony. In his place, senior officials from the Embassy of Greece in Tirana participated in this ceremony. 

We are sorry for such news that do not reflect the truth and reality regarding our cooperation with our neighboring country, Greece, and that promote misunderstandings between our two friendly countries," the statement said./ CNA
