Megaoperation by SPAK and Italian authorities/ 52 people arrested, assets worth

A major operation against international drug trafficking led to the arrest of 52 people between Italy and Albania, Italian media report.

The operation was carried out by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate of Bari and the Albanian authorities, with the assistance of Interpol, the Office of Security Experts of Tirana and the Albanian police, with the coordination of Eurojust (The Hague) and the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate of Rome.

Movable and immovable assets worth several million euros were also seized.

The arrested are accused, to varying degrees, of international trafficking of large quantities of narcotics, money laundering and abuse of office.

The orders were issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of Bar and by the Judge at the Special Court of First Instance for Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime of Tirana.

The investigative activity is part of a wider investigative project of the DDA of Bari and Spak that aims to combat the uninterrupted international trafficking of cocaine and heroin, managed by Albanian criminal organizations, which move large quantities of heroin and cocaine between the Balkans, Northern Europe and Puglia./ CNA
