Measures for compensation of damages and insurance in agriculture within 2026

During the requested interpellation in the Albanian Parliament, the Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, announced that the Albanian government is committed to determining financial values ??for compensation for damages caused by various factors, including climate change, starting in 2026.

According to him, to create a more sustainable system for farmers and businesses in the sector, the Ministry of Agriculture is working on drafting a draft law on agricultural insurance, which is expected to be prepared within this year.

This mechanism aims to support farmers through state coverage of a significant portion of the insurance premium.

The Minister also emphasized that the national support scheme for agriculture has currently been approved, while a budget of 5.2 billion lek has been foreseen for 2026.

These funds will be financed through grants and will focus on investments in greenhouses, fruit growing, livestock, product processing lines, and agritourism.

These measures aim to increase the sustainability of the agricultural sector and mitigate the impacts of climate change on the economy.

"The Albanian government has expressed its commitment to establish financial values ??to compensate for such damages in 2026.

For a sustainable choice, due to the damages that climate change brings to farmers and businesses, the Ministry of Agriculture has planned to prepare a draft law on agricultural insurance within this year. The state covers a considerable part of the insurance premium.

"It has currently approved the national scheme. In 2026 with a budget of 5.2 billion lek that will be financed with grants in the investment package for projects in greenhouses, trees, stables, product processing lines, agritourism, etc.," said Andis Salla./ CNA
