Marathon in Shkodër, in support of patients with multiple sclerosis

In the tourist spot of Shiroka, by the largest lake in the Balkans, that of Shkodra, amateur and professional athletes from Albania, Mali Montenegro, Kosovo and the Albanians of America joined today in the 13th edition of the "Triathlon Labeat" marathon. which combines swimming, cycling and running in one sport, organized by "Shkodra Sport".

This year's edition was developed with the motto "I do not surrender to multiple sclerosis", aiming to raise the awareness of the citizens, the Ministry of Health and the government, so that these patients are offered all the necessary services.

According to the "Tree of Life" foundation, in Albania there are more than 1,800 people affected by multiple sclerosis and only a few of them manage to receive the necessary health services.

The head of the water sports association, Klidi Hoti, is one of the organizers of the marathon. He says that every year the association has tried to dedicate the marathon to a cause.

"Last year was for a healthy heart, he says, this year for multiple sclerosis, a disease of nerve destruction for some patients, who really need the Albanian Government and the Ministry of Health to be aware that these patients, to receive the necessary service".

Every year, the marathon "Triathlon Labeat" is dedicated to the cause of one of the most problematic diseases, including various types of cancer.

Athletes from the region and beyond take part in this awareness competition. The young man Endrit Idrizi came from the United States of America with his family and says that he dedicates his participation to the need for more awareness about life-threatening diseases.

"I came from America, like the last three years, to promote the fight against diseases. This year it's for multiple sclerosis. I have made my own team called "American Eagle" to promote this fight against diseases. Last year we came for the fight against cancer and for general body health", he says.

Among the sportsmen from the region, in the activities developed today at the tourist point of Shiroka, there was also a group of sportsmen from Gjakova. Alban Delija says that they are evaluating not only the messages of the marathon, but also the tourist values ??of the Shkodra Lake shore and the northern part of Albania.

Lake Shkodra, which is shared between Albania and Montenegro, is one of the important tourism destinations in the region. With the diversity of the natural ecosystem, but also the many activities and tourist spots along the coast, it attracts tourists in all seasons of the year.

In an effort to cooperate for the development of tourism in the shared Shkodra Lake, Albania and Montenegro have agreed several times to open a common border crossing point near the village of Zogaj, as well as free navigation on both sides of the Lake, but so far none of them has been concreted./ VOA
