A court in Rome on Friday ordered the return to Italy of the small group of migrants who were sent to reception camps set up by the Italian government in Albania, dealing a blow to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's plans to send asylum seekers out of the country. .

The migration section of the Rome Court ruled invalid the detention in the Gjadri camp of 10 Bangladeshi nationals and 6 others from Egypt, two countries considered unsafe, by a decision of the European Court of Justice two weeks ago.

According to the Rama-Meloni agreement, only migrants from countries considered safe, according to a list of 22 countries drawn up by the Italian foreign ministry, would be held in the Gjadri camp in Albania.

But the decision of the European Court, mandatory for implementation in member countries, significantly reduces the number of countries that can be considered safe. As a result, the Italian government may be faced with the fact that the camp in Albania will remain almost empty.
