The CEC starts the verification of the mayor of Malësi e Madhe

On Thursday, the Central Election Commission decided to start the verification of Toni Marinaj, socialist mayor in Malesia e Madhe.

The decision was taken today by the chairman of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi.

"Conducting an in-depth verification of Tony Zef Marinaj, Mayor of Malësi e Madhe Municipality, proposed by the electoral entity "Socialist Party of Albania", and sending relevant data to the General Prosecutor's Office for further evaluation. This decision comes into force immediately", said Celibashi. 

A few days ago, the Democratic Party asked the General Prosecutor's Office to verify according to the law the decriminalization of the Mayor of Malësi e Madhe Tonin Marinaj.

In the document dated July 2, 2024, it is stated that the Italian Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office accuses him of being the head of a criminal organization of international drug trafficking.

The request was signed by the Chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group Gazment Bardhi and MPs Dhurata Cupi, Ina Zhupa, Zheni Gjergji, Ramadan Likaj, Sorina Koti, Albana Vokshi, Luan Baci, Elda Hoti, Edmond Spaho, Emilja Koliqi, Flamur Hoxha, Oerd Bylykbashi, Agron Gjekmarkaj, Bledion Nallbati and Asllan Dogjani. /CNA
