Albania, Italy, Bulgaria and the Republic of Moldova sign the document on
Niko Peleshi and his counterparts

The Minister of Defense, Niko Peleshi, signed during the proceedings of the NATO Summit in Washington, the Letter of Intent for the provision of Military Mobility along the VIII Pan-European Corridor, with his counterparts from Italy, Bulgaria and North Macedonia.

Through this document, states commit to take all appropriate measures to ensure maximum flexibility and military mobility in their territories in support of the implementation of NATO's agenda for deterrence and defense in the Euro-Atlantic area.

Such a commitment will serve not only NATO missions, but also those within the European Union. In essence, this document signed by Minister Niko Peleshi, Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto, Bulgarian Minister of Defense Atanas Zaprianov and Minister of Defense of North Macedonia Vlado Misajlovski, allows NATO military troops to move quickly and freely from the Sea Adriatic in the Black Sea as well as penetrate deep into the Balkans, if necessary.

The idea of ??having such a document, which will guarantee mobility along the countries affected by the VIII Pan-European Corridor, was proposed by Albania, which led the entire process of negotiation and coordination.

Italy, Bulgaria and North Macedonia, throughout the process interacted and committed to finalize this initiative during the Washington Summit proceedings.

The signing of the Letter of Intent comes in support of Albania's vision for Corridor VIII as well as the master project for the construction of the NATO Naval Base in Porto Romano, which will serve as the main gateway to the Western Balkans and further, to the Sea of Black.

The Letter of Intent will increase the visibility of joint projects as well as their geostrategic importance for the entire region. /CNA
