A case of rinderpest is confirmed in the country

The National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority announced this Wednesday that an isolated case of Peste de petits ruminants has been confirmed in Albania.

As reported by the AKVMB, the case was identified in a goat breeding farm, with a total of 220 heads, in the village of Okshatinë, Shupenza Administrative Unit, Bulqiza Municipality.

Samples taken in the field by the Veterinary Service were analyzed at the reference laboratory of the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute, which confirmed the presence of the PPR virus.

Immediately after the confirmation of the case, veterinary structures intervened on the ground, implementing all measures set out in the legislation in force and in the National Contingency Plan for PPR. An epidemiological investigation was carried out and safety zones were defined, namely a protected zone within a 3 km radius and a surveillance zone within a 10 km radius, which include the territory of the municipalities of Bulqizë and Dibër. /CNA
