"The National Security Council does not make decisions"/ Presidency

In response to the United States Embassy's warning of potential security risks and the Democratic Party's request for an urgent meeting of the National Security Council, the Presidential Press Office has clarified the role and functioning of this body.

According to the Presidency, the National Security Council is an advisory body that supports the President in the exercise of constitutional and legal powers and responsibilities, without making decisions on the issues it discusses.

It is composed of heads of the highest state institutions and heads of key security institutions and serves to make recommendations to law enforcement and security-responsible institutions.

The Presidency emphasizes that all relevant institutions are vigilant, executive security mechanisms are active and functional, and cooperation with international partners is at high levels.

Presidency Announcement:

Given the interest of media representatives in the National Security Council meeting by the President of the Republic in the context of the call that the Embassy of the United States of America made yesterday, the Press Office of the President of the Republic finds it appropriate to clarify, as follows:

- The National Security Council is an advisory body supporting the President of the Republic in the exercise of his constitutional and legal powers and responsibilities. The National Security Council does not make decisions on the issues it discusses. The Council is composed of heads of high state bodies and heads of important institutions.

The Council serves the President of the Republic, as a rule, for the discussion of recommendations for measures that the President of the Republic compiles for law enforcement institutions and institutions responsible for security regarding the coping with the risks that threaten the Republic of Albania.

- The President of the Republic is in daily contact with the institutions of the National Security Council and is informed by them about every situation and scenario, as well as about all measures taken within the framework of security protocols.

- The President of the Republic has ascertained that all relevant institutions are vigilant and in full pursuit of the situation. The executive security mechanisms are active and functional. Also, the President of the Republic has ascertained that institutional cooperation and that with foreign and international partners is at extremely high levels.

- The President of the Republic continues to communicate with the institutions responsible for public and national security, which are in constant coordination and collaboration with our partners, as well as on duty to fulfill their constitutional and legal obligations. /CNA
