INSTAT has published a report about waste management, which has revealed facts that prove the denunciations about the 3 incinerators.
Although one of them does not work under the pretext that it is under repair, the other is not finished and the third does not exist, the incinerators have received about 170 million euros from the Albanian Government and private business.
But while incinerators continue to receive money, INSTAT data shows that only 4.4 percent of waste was actually burned for energy by incinerators.
In 2022, it turns out that around 820,322 thousand tons of urban waste were managed, but incinerators treated to produce energy less than 36 thousand tons.

About 76.6% of the waste was deposited in landfills and waste fields, while 18.9% was recycled.
According to the Institute of Statistics, incinerators burned only 2% of waste for electricity in 2021, while in 2020 only 1.1%.
Furthermore, the data shows that the amount of total urban waste managed at the national level fell last year. From over 1 million tons in 2020 or over 875 thousand tons in 2021, last year around 830 thousand tons were managed./ CNA
