A group of citizens in Lezhë, this Tuesday, November 28, protested against the agreement for immigrants Albania-Italy.

This 111th anniversary of Albania's Independence Day, they chose to raise their voices against the agreement that will bring thousands of immigrants to Lezhë.

They protested with banners in their hands around the city and then went to the Skanderbeg Memorial in Lezhë.

"Refugee people, refugee camp! Stop this agreement, stop propaganda!

No camps in Albania, don't bring us slavery!

We don't owe anyone, don't put us in blood with strangers!

No constitutional violence, I 'm fighting for a piece of bread!" , are some of the calls made by the citizens in the protest.  

The full agreement between the Albanian and Italian governments for the accommodation of illegal immigrants was signed on November 6, 2023 in Rome between Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and provides for the establishment of two centers in the territory of Albania.

It is expected that 3 thousand immigrants will be accommodated in these centers.

In his public appearances, Prime Minister Edi Rama has announced that all obligations for immigrants and for the establishment of centers will be fulfilled by Italy.

The migrants will stay at the center until their documentation is reviewed and then it will be decided whether they will return to their country or be accepted to live in Italy./ CNA
