Berisha celebrates November 28 in Vlora/ Visits the Mezini family
Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha

Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha paid a visit to Vlora this November 28 on the occasion of the independence holidays.

He paid a visit to the Mezini family, where, according to early documents, it was mentioned for the first time in the archives of Istanbul in 1640, as being located in Vlora.

He said that it is not a coincidence that after the declaration of Independence, Ismail bey Vlora made his first visit to the Mezini family, with whom he had a close friendship.

Full post:

Dear friends, today during my visit to Vlora, the capital of Independence, I had the pleasure of stopping at the Mezini family. To understand the special place this family has in the history of the city and Albania, a brief history:

The family of Abaz Mezin is one of the founding families of the city of Vlora. Abaz Mezini was the chairman of the Committee for the Security of the Declaration of Independence and the first mayor of Vlora Municipality.

The Mezini family, according to early documents, is mentioned for the first time in the archives of Istanbul in 1640, as being located in Vlora.

The family has been prominent in the economic and political life for centuries in Vlore, culminating with the patriotic activity in 1912.

The first of the tribe, Abaz Mezini, whose name is named after the street in the Tophana neighborhood, where the tribe's palaces are located, once 4 two-story stone towers, with high gates where a horse-drawn carriage entered.

Communism forced the tribe to divide the towers, calling them "bourgeois", with peasants who came from the countryside, loyal to the party.

The Mezinians are famous for their patriotism.

Abaz Mezini was the first mayor of the Municipality, commanded by the High Gate in 1908. With his salary, which he never received, families with orphans were helped, and the first Albanian language school was opened in Vlorë, in the neighborhood Muradie.

In the book of memories, Ismail Qemali presents some correspondence with Abaz Mezin, who was the chairman of the Committee for the Declaration of Independence.

The latter ensured Ismail's immunity in Vlora, at a time when anti-Albanian circles demanded his execution.

It is not a coincidence that after the declaration of Independence, Ismail bey Vlora made his first visit to the Mezini family, with whom he had a close friendship./ CNA
