Tirana Incinerator/Xama: Even after 4.5 years of investigations, it is not clear

Journalist Ola Xama, in an appearance on MCN TV, spoke about the decision of the Special Court for the defendants in the Tirana incinerator case.

She said that only the procedure has been investigated, even though this file has been under investigation for 4 years and 6 months and it has still not been said who is responsible for the fact that 130 million euros were given and there is no incinerator.

Xama added that the penalties are minimal. 

" Seven of the 12 defendants received minimum sentences for abuse of office and some received probation."

This was expected to be one of the biggest issues because it was the first one initiated by the Prosecutor's Office. At the Tirana incinerator, we have a ridiculous and ambiguous situation. The trials in the first instance have ended, but the investigations continue. The Prosecutor's Office has only investigated the procedure. This file has been under investigation for 4 years and 6 months. Only the papers and the procedure for granting the concession have been investigated and abuse of office has been found.

It has been proven that the letters were made by the duo Klodian Zoto-Mirel Mërtiri, unilaterally. But even though the letters were made today, the Special Prosecution Office is not able to say who is responsible for the fact that 130 million euros were given, of which 90 million euros were given from the state budget and the rest from the lands and there is no incinerator. And the Prosecution Office is still investigating this.

"There are two violations in the incinerator permit granting procedure: The permit granted by Veliaj and the second violation, Veliaj's assumption of financing for the incinerator without the approval of the municipal council ," said Xama./ CNA
