Known as the "king of escapes"/ Albanian "evaporates" from

Taulant Toma, an Albanian serving a sentence in the Opera prison in Milan, has escaped from his cell. The 41-year-old, considered a dangerous person and with a criminal history spanning Italy and Europe, managed to escape from the high-security prison by cutting the bars of his cell and climbing out with sheets.

According to Italian media, the Albanian took advantage of the darkness and the time of the prison guard's shift change to escape. Toma, known as the "king of escapes", is convicted of robbery and theft, and has challenged Italian and Belgian law enforcement agencies several times.

He had previously escaped from Parma prison (also a maximum security facility) with another Albanian, who was later killed by a jeweler during a villa robbery. Toma was also the protagonist of a sensational escape to Belgium, where European authorities have considered him a high-risk individual for years.

The fugitive is considered experienced in evading controls and has a network of contacts that have not yet been verified. The prefecture has activated a comprehensive search plan: patrols, checkpoints, searches in fields and industrial areas, as well as internal border controls. Suspicions are that Taulant may attempt to leave Italy or join criminal groups in Northern Europe. /CNA
