Saint Nicholas Day is celebrated today/ Archbishop Joan leads the Divine Liturgy

Today, Saint Nicholas Day is celebrated in all the Metropolitanates of Albania, in Tirana, Durrës, Korçë, Gjirokastër, Fier, Berat, Elbasan.

This day was also celebrated in the city of Kavaja in the church named after Saint Nicholas. His Beatitude, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, Bishop Joan, led the Divine Liturgy in this church, which was attended by many believers from Kavaja, Durrës, Tirana, etc.

In his wise speech, he emphasized lessons from the saint's life and example, such as the rule of faith, gentleness, humility, and love for the vulnerable.

"Today we honor Saint Nicholas. The reason his cult has spread everywhere is manifold. Saint Nicholas did not write any books nor was he a great orator, yet he was one of the most beloved saints in the history of the Church.

"Because he loved Christ very much and was modeled after the life of Christ. By doing this, he began to become like Christ. The icon of God is in every person, likeness is an opportunity that is given to us. And we are given this opportunity if we will begin to live according to the teachings that come to us from the teaching of the Lord, the Gospel," Archbishop John said, among other things, during the sermon.

Saint Nicholas, bishop of Myra in Lycia, lived in the 4th century. He was known for giving gifts secretly, and from this fact the legend of Santa Claus was born. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children, sailors, orphans, etc. Nicholas means "Victory of the people."  /CNA
