Weapons Deactivation Center Opens/New Infrastructure for Ammunition Handling

The Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, participated in the handover ceremony of the Small Arms and Light Weapons Deactivation Center and the equipment for its operation.

The Center is an investment made by the OSCE Presence in Albania in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and with the financial support of the European Union, Germany and France.

The new infrastructure aims to strengthen the technical capacities of the Albanian state for handling weapons, ammunition and explosives, harmonizing domestic procedures with international standards.

During the handover ceremony, the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, stated that this center creates for the first time an infrastructure dedicated to this process, helping to reduce the risks from illegal weapons.

"The delivery of the Deactivation Center and the equipment for its operation is a concrete step that strengthens public safety, increases our professional standards and brings Albania even closer to European practices and standards in this sensitive field ," the minister said.

Meanwhile, present at this meeting were the Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, the OSCE Ambassador in Tirana, Michel Tarran, as well as representatives of the EU Delegation, the French and German embassies. /CNA
