reaction

UGSH's reaction to the violation of ethics and non-compliance with the obligation to inform journalists by the President of the Albanian Bar Association.

Tirana on 02.11. 2025

The Union of Albanian Journalists publicly reacts to the frequent cases of rejection and unethical communication towards reporters on duty, by persons elected to public office, heads of institutions, representatives of organizations and subjects representing professional entities.

In the last two months, the UGSH has received denunciations and complaints from reporters and operators of several editorial offices, mainly of investigative shows such as "Stop", "Piranjat", "Xhadat" etc., whose journalists and operators have often faced not only refusals to answer, the use of obstructive persons in the offices of institutions and local elected officials, but also unethical language, refusals to provide specific answers to reporters' specific questions, as well as offensive language, threats and various pressures.

Most recently, the CNA editorial team has filed a complaint with the UGSH against the president of the Albanian Bar Association, Mr. Maks Haxhia, for using unethical language and behavior, as well as refusing to provide answers to the practices followed in the attorney licensing exams by this entity.

UGSH reacts to this case and expresses solidarity with CNA colleagues, who, in accordance with legal rights and public service, express insistence on public information and correct information.

We demand from Mr. Haxhia a public response and apology for the ethical violation in his communication with the CNA journalist, as well as the provision of the requested information on the matter of public interest.

UGSH appeals to all institutions that demonstrate violations of public information and transparency practices, reiterating that such practices violate the law and, consequently, carry legal consequences.

UGSH encourages Albanian editors across the country's multimedia spectrum, as well as professional reporters, to increase their persistence and at the same time increase their professional responsibility in the service of accurate information and in-depth reporting.
