The Socialist International has reacted with a message of condolence on the passing of former Prime Minister, Fatos Nano. In a post on the platform, “X”, it is stated that Nano played an important role during Albania’s transition period, and under his leadership the Albanian Socialist Party joined the Socialist International.

The post notes that he led the country through challenging times, striving to build a constitutional and democratic state.

The Socialist International expresses its sincere condolences to our member, the Albanian Socialist Party, and its leader, Edi Rama, on the passing of the former leader of the Socialist Party of Albania and former Prime Minister of the country, Fatos Nano.

Fatos Nano played an important role during Albania's transition period, and it was under his leadership that the Socialist Party joined the Socialist International. Throughout his life, he fought courageously for democratic values, and from 1994 to 1997 he was a political prisoner. He led the country through challenging times, striving to build a constitutional and democratic state, and contributed greatly to the reform and modernization of the Socialist Party.
