Eighteen charred bodies, possibly of migrants, were found in a remote, rural area south of the village of Avantas in northern Greece on Tuesday, where fires have been burning for days, the fire brigade said, Reuters reports.
"Given that there are no reports of disappearances or disappearances of residents from the surrounding areas, the possibility that they are people who have entered the country illegally is being investigated," says the announcement of the fire brigade.
The wider Evros region is a popular route for migrants crossing the river of the same name from Turkey to Greece.
"The search in the entire area where the fire broke out is ongoing", says the announcement of the firefighters./ CNA
