Students of the Faculty of Political and Legal Sciences held an open lecture with the former Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati.

Under the guidance of the Lecturer, Dr. Mirela Metushaj, the students discussed a number of issues, starting from international developments, focusing especially on the presidential elections in the USA, the country's integration process in the European Union and developments in the country with a focus on justice.

The students showed special interest in the election of Donald Trump at the head of the White House and the impacts it may have in the region and in Albania.

Former minister Bushati emphasized that the elections in America are of great importance not only for the USA, but for the whole world, due to the incomparable weight they have in the international arena.

There are two main conclusions that Bushati has drawn in this direction.

First, we are dealing with a return of Donald Trump to the head of the White House and a pretty big victory, even with the popular vote, because in 2016 he did not secure the popular vote, but he got the vote of the electoral colleges in the USA .

Second, we have a victory in those states or electoral colleges that have been considered since '92 when President Clinton was elected as states that lean toward the Democrats. Or a penetration of support for Trump in groups that in America are considered minority groups, African Americans, Hispanics, Latinos.

"The first conclusion we can draw is that Trump's first victory in 2016 was not an exception to the rule, and we clearly see that there is a popular frustration that has been channeled into President Trump. There is a criticism that was confirmed in this election that the Democratic Party in America is a party that has generally been transformed into a party of the middle classes, educated, of various groups of bankers or Hollywood and seems to have deepened a gap with what we call it the working class," he said.

The second conclusion is the victory of social networks over traditional media. If we look at all the predictions, projections and polls that were made by the most prestigious American media and not only, they talked about either a very close division or a massive popular vote for Kamala Harris.

Focusing on our region, Bushati does not believe that anything will change in this report.

"I have worked with three different secretaries of state who came from two different administrations and to be honest, I have not noticed any difference in terms of their attitude towards the region and Albania", emphasized the former foreign minister.
