Financing of political parties/ OSCE Ambassador: Sanctions are needed to stop

OSCE/ODIHR Ambassador Michel Tarran, during his speech at the roundtable on political party financing, stated that sanctions should be imposed to prevent illicit profits.

According to Tarran, the principles are closely linked to the OSCE/ODIHR recommendations on the financing of political parties.

He emphasized that the OSCE report on the 2025 parliamentary elections highlighted a number of areas where a review of the current legal framework is recommended.

Tarran underlined that the Electoral Reform Commission has a key role in undertaking an electoral reform that addresses the accumulated recommendations.

"Sanctions should be imposed to stop illicit profits. These principles are closely linked to the OSCE-ODIHR recommendations on the financing of political parties."
