Erjon Nexhipi: Llazar Fundo, figure of Albania's European thought

Erjon Nexhipi, the president of the Korça District Council, was part of the scientific symposium on the intellectual Llazar Fundo.

Nexhipi, in a statement to CNA, said that Llazar Fundo is a complex and multidimensional figure, a patriotic figure and a figure of European thought in Albania.

"In the framework of our cooperation with the university, we have held several conferences. This is another scientific activity that I hope will bring contributions to highlight a patriotic figure and European thought of Albania that we fortunately have the privilege of having as a patriot of Korça. He is a complex, multidimensional figure that an activity of this nature simply contributes to, it is not enough. I think that in the coming period there will be a need for other similar activities to give those values ??that this patriot has", said Erjon Nexhipi.

It is a special pleasure for me, as the Chairman of the Korça District Council, to welcome you to this scientific activity dedicated to an important figure in Albanian history and thought: Zai (Llazar) Fundo.

The Korça District Council is constantly engaged in supporting activities aimed at studying, recognizing and appreciating historical and cultural personalities who have contributed significantly to the enrichment of our country's heritage.

The figure of Zai Fundo is one of the most complex and interesting in the Albanian history of the 20th century. He is a personality who, with his free thinking and intellectual engagement, contributed significantly to the political, social and intellectual developments of his time. Korça has the privilege of being the birthplace of this patriot and intellectual, whose life and activity continue to arouse interest and discussions even today.

Fundo, although he came from a wealthy family and had other life opportunities, chose a different path—that of active engagement in the face of the political and social dangers of the time. He joined progressive and anti-fascist movements, clearly seeing fascism as a threat to the freedom and future of his country. He was fully aware of the dangers that threatened him, but this did not prevent him from maintaining strong and determined positions.

In these days, when the Political Council of Europe is taking place in Tirana, within the framework of Europe Week, it is worth remembering the European vision of Zai Fundo. He believed in a united, democratic and progressive Europe. For Fundo, the most aware part of society is the one that manages to leave the comfort zones and conformity, understanding reality and making clear and courageous choices that precede a better future for all.

In this context, the cooperation with the "Fan S. Noli" University is very significant for us, as it creates space for scientific research and intellectual debates, contributing to the formation of new generations and influencing the further social and cultural development of our region.

I express my belief that today's conference will deepen knowledge about the life and contributions of Zai Fundo, making these values ??more understandable and closer to the general public.

I thank you for your valuable work and assure you that the Korça District Council will continue to support and promote initiatives that focus on history, culture, and education.
