Exclusive/ Here's when traffic starts on the Librazhd-Përrenjas road

The much-discussed Librazhd-Përrenjas road axis, which has isolated the southeast of the country, causing huge economic and financial costs, and separating the southeast of the country from the rest of Albania through alternative routes that are a hardship and torture for travelers, is expected to open tomorrow.

CNA has learned from official sources at the Albanian Road Traffic Agency that, tomorrow around noon, small vehicles will be allowed to pass through the Librazhd-Përrenjas segment, exactly where it crashed, in Dragostunjë.

According to the same official sources for CNA, it is emphasized that from tomorrow, traffic will begin on a route on the part of the new road that is being built, i.e. an emergency segment that will operate for two or three weeks until the construction of another route, the one that will pass over the train tracks below the riverbank.

With the construction of the new route, which has a length of about 1.2 to 1.3 kilometers, the movement of vehicles will begin in the lower part. This is to allow for the massive works to begin for the construction of the road route in this segment of Corridor VIII, for which a new study is being conducted.

According to official data provided by CNA, in the segment in Dragostunjë where the road has slipped, experts, after discussing and being able to have samples of geological studies, have agreed that a viaduct with bridges should be built there, which would make it possible to finally solve the problem of passage in this segment of Corridor VIII.

CNA has also learned that after the decision to build bridges, the project will be awaited to learn and the time it will take to build this segment in Dragostunje of Corridor VIII, which has already begun, for which a major investment has already begun from Rrogozhina towards Elbasan, Librazhd, Përrenjas, to then proceed with a four-lane road towards North Macedonia.

The entire situation is expected to be resolved according to official data in these phases:

First phase: The start of the road tomorrow, March 3rd, around noon, in the segment where the landslides occurred, with a transition to the new section of the road that is being built, which has been worked on 24 hours a day these days.

This will be temporary for two-three weeks or a maximum of one month for the construction of a bypass below where the train tracks are located, which will also serve for the third period.

The complete construction of this segment , which according to experts, engineers and the Albanian Road Administration, will be done with a viaduct, that is, with bridges, to solve once and for all and for all, so that there are no problems in this segment of Corridor VIII./ CNA
