The blockade of the Librazhd highway has had direct consequences for the city of Pogradec, significantly affecting the tourism sector and the local economy. As the gateway to the Korça Region, Pogradec has seen an immediate drop in visitors, cancellations of reservations and empty hotels even on the eve of the March 7 and 8 holidays.
The Deputy Mayor of Pogradec, Entela Gusho, says that the situation has negatively affected the city, as many teacher groups and groups from different cities in the country had booked to celebrate in Pogradec. According to her, the cancellations have been felt not only in the hotel industry, but also in restaurants and the local market. She emphasizes that the most affected are the hotels in Pogradec and Tushemisht, while guesthouses are less affected due to their seasonality.
"The situation of the last few days, with the road collapse, has had a negative impact on our city. Pogradec is the gateway to the Korça District, where Qafë-Thana was one of the destinations where tourists enter from other countries. According to the information we have, this is a sad way for tourist entities and operators because reservations have been canceled. This is due to the fact that many teacher groups were celebrating March 7 or even March 8 in our city. Various groups from Albania had booked to spend the holidays here. This is felt not only in hotels, but also in restaurants and in the market in general. Pogradec has a high number of residences where residents have bought houses and spend most of their time here. This has caused them to no longer be frequented and I can say that it is a big gap for tourists. This situation affects the hotels of Pogradec and Tushemisht more, and the guesthouses less because they are frequented during the summer season, "but the hospitality industry in Pogradec and Tushemisht is in a moment of crisis ," says Gusho.

The same situation is confirmed by tourist operators. Markel Bimbli, owner of Vila Bimbli in Pogradec, says that since the road was blocked, weekends that are mainly associated with visitors from Tirana have disappeared. According to him, this week has been “zero tourists”, paralyzing both the hotel and restaurant industry. He says that without movement there is no income and that the situation remains difficult if it continues at the same pace.

Tani ne me qeverinë nuk do hahemi, por do përshtatemi", shprehet artizanja.

Qytetarët e Pogradecit thonë se qyteti duket i zbrazët.
"I haven't seen any tourists in Pogradec, because of the broken road. I just spoke to one of my brothers, he's in Proptiste and they can't go to Tirana because they have the daughter-in-law of the son who just gave birth. They can't take her and they can't go. What can they bring? Mrs. Balluku put us in the ground alive, she needs to be removed as soon as possible so that good people can come and lead us. It also affects businesses because there are no people, they have to work with people. The southeastern area is paralyzed at this time, and food prices have also gone up. It's partly nature's fault, but things that happen ," the citizen says.

Under these conditions, businesses in the area hope for a quick resolution to the situation, as every day without movement translates into economic loss for a city that has tourism as one of the main pillars of development. /CNA
