Korça empty on the weekend, tourism and businesses feel the consequences

The city of Korça this weekend appeared significantly quieter than usual. The most frequented tourist areas, such as the pedestrian zone and the Old Bazaar, were almost empty, while bars and businesses saw a sharp drop in customer traffic.

The drop in visitor numbers comes a week after the total blockade of the Librazhd road on February 21, a key axis connecting the southeast with the rest of the country.

The diversion of traffic to the alternative route from Gramsh and Lozhani has extended travel time and significantly made access to the city more difficult, leading to cancellations of reservations at hotels and guesthouses, as well as reluctance from visitors to travel.

If the situation continues as it is, the economic damage could deepen, affecting not only the tourism sector, but the entire service chain in the city.

For a destination that relies heavily on weekend tourism, this period is proving to be a significant blow to the local economy. In the meantime, Korça is expecting the return of the vibrancy that traditionally characterizes it on weekends.

Until a final solution is reached, the city remains on hold, with businesses struggling to maintain activity and a season that has begun under the shadow of uncertainty and economic losses that may be difficult to recover. /CNA
