The Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, has paid an official visit to Pristina, where he met with senior state leaders, President Vjosa Osmani, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu. The visit was held in the framework of strengthening the strategic and institutional cooperation between Albania and Kosovo, reaffirming the relationship between the two countries.

According to information, in the meeting with the Speaker of the Assembly Albulena Haxhiu, the prompt constitution of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo and the start of the new legislature were welcomed. During his speech, Peleshi praised the high level of parliamentary cooperation between the two Assemblies, supported through the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in 2022, as well as through joint meetings in Tirana and Pristina.

It also welcomed the resolution in support of former KLA leaders being tried in The Hague, emphasizing that this decision represents a clear expression of political will and institutional solidarity, reaffirming support for a fair and impartial process, as well as for preserving the dignity of the liberation war.

Speakers Peleshi and Haxhiu emphasized the need to increase the quality and frequency of cooperation between parliamentary committees, parliamentary groups, delegations to international organizations, MPs, administrations of both Assemblies, exchange of information and approximation of legislation in function of European integration processes and representation in international organizations.

During the meeting with the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, the Speaker of the Parliament reconfirmed Albania's full support for Kosovo in the international arena, for new recognitions and for membership in international and regional organizations. Kosovo's clear pro-European orientation, compliance with the EU's foreign policy and commitment to reforms in the function of the rule of law were also appreciated. Peleshi emphasized that Albania will continue to be the strongest voice in support of Kosovo, especially in the efforts to obtain the status of a candidate country in the European Union and membership in NATO.

In the meeting with the head of government, Albin Kurti, the deepening of bilateral cooperation in all dimensions, as well as regional developments, were discussed. The importance of parliamentary cooperation as a driver of bilateral relations was underlined, and support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue facilitated by the EU and supported by the US was reaffirmed, with the aim of reaching a final agreement, based on mutual recognition.
