The American Embassy in Tirana has reacted regarding the judgment of the backlogged files in the High Court.
Through a statement on social networks, the US Embassy seems to be not satisfied with the work so far in the Supreme Court, as far as the progress in the trial with the backlog files is concerned.
"In 2019, the Supreme Court had only one judge from 19 countries. Today there are 16 members with only three vacancies. As of July 2020, the Supreme Court had a backlog of approximately 35,000 cases. As of April 2021, the US-funded reduction project has processed over 8,200 backlog cases – and the Supreme Court has resolved 5,200 of them.
More needs to be done. The US will continue to support the Supreme Judicial Council as it fills remaining vacancies on the Supreme Court and will support major efforts to reduce the case backlog. Albanians deserve fast, real justice," says the US embassy's post. /CNA
