The People's Advocate, Erinda Ballanca, spoke about the situation of prisons in our country and about Criminal Amnesty.

She said that the prisons are overcrowded and their conditions are not good because they were built about 40-50 years ago.

Ballanca stated that it is necessary to free up some space in prisons by means of criminal amnesty.

"Today in Albania, prisons are overcrowded. The problem is also the fact that in our country there are prisons that have been built for a long time, perhaps 40 or 50 years ago, and the conditions in them are not so good. I think that the amnesty was also needed, because at least it frees up some spaces in the prisons, since the capacities are full. We also have overcrowded detention centers, as the most severe security measure, that of prison arrest, is often given. The problem is also the fact that the trials last for a long time", emphasized the People's Advocate. / CNA
