The EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, gave a "slap" to the socialists during a meeting in the Assembly, with the heads of independent institutions and the Speaker of the Parliament, Elisa Spiropali.

Gonzato asked to respect the decisions of the Constitutional Court point by point.

He declared that the implementation of the decisions of the Constitutional Court is essential in a democratic state.

"Inter-institutional relations must be in full respect of the Constitution, which deals with checks and balances. As mentioned in the last report on the implementation of the rule of law, cooperation between Parliament and independent institutions is very important. In this context, the Parliament must report properly in cases where it is necessary for the heads of independent institutions but also the various commissions, such as the Commissioner against Discrimination, or the Constitutional Court. The decisions of the Constitutional Court must be respected as derived from them, and this is essential in a democratic state," Gonzato emphasized.
