EU Ambassador Gonzato: SPAK, with capacity and efficiency in combating organized

The European Union Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato, said today that thanks to the work of the Special Prosecution Office, organized crime has been tackled with the appropriate capacity and efficiency of SPAK.

At a conference following the publication of the progress report, Gonzato stated that corruption has had an impact on both the public and private spheres.

According to the ambassador, over the past year, financial investigations have improved and seizures of crime-related assets have increased.

"Corruption remains rife in sensitive sectors, affecting both the public and private spheres. So far, preventive efforts have had only limited impact. More progress is therefore needed in terms of transparency and efficiency in asset declaration controls. In the fight against organized crime, the report notes that Albania has grown moderately and that good progress has been achieved, thanks to the increased capacity and efficiency of SPAK to crack down on organized crime groups, improving financial investigations and seizing assets linked to crime. Albania has also increased its actions against money laundering," Gonzato said./CNA
