"The railway axis of Corridor VIII will remain the same"/ Verdho:

The Director of the Albanian Railways, Ergys Verdho, has stated that the railway axis within Corridor VIII will remain the same, while the project will include technical improvements and in-depth infrastructure interventions.

According to him, the line's track will not change, but there will be improvements to the radii, according to the consultant's recommendations. He emphasized that if the existing works prove to be depreciated or unsuitable, they will be demolished to be replaced with new structures.

"If all the works are broken or we are going to put new works, we will demolish the existing ones to make a Corridor VIII that is completely new," he said.

The administrator announced that all works of art will undergo a complete revision.

Also, existing tunnels will be expanded, as the project envisages electrification of the railway line.

According to him, the current dimensions of the old tunnels do not meet the standards required for an electrified corridor.

Regarding the landslide in the Dragostunja area, he said that this situation will serve as an important lesson for the treatment of all slopes and streams in this segment, taking into account the geological factors of the area.

"This case has given us an extraordinary lesson to look into the future of all future projects," the administrator concluded, emphasizing the importance of in-depth technical analysis to guarantee the safety and sustainability of the infrastructure./ CNA
