Verstappen celebrates in Las Vegas, McLaren drivers disqualified

Red Bull driver Max Verstappen recorded his sixth victory of the season and 69th of his career, winning the Las Vegas Grand Prix, a race that brought significant developments in both sporting and technical terms.

After the final inspection, both McLaren cars, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, were disqualified due to technical irregularities with the minimum thickness of the rear underbody plate, a component that according to the regulations must be at least nine millimeters. This decision significantly changed the final standings.

At the start, Norris made an aggressive move on Verstappen, but his braking error allowed the Dutchman to regain the lead. McLaren finished the race in good positions, with Norris second and Piastre fourth, but the disqualification paved the way for Mercedes to finish double on the podium.

George Russell moved up to second place, while Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured his third podium of the season, leaving Charles Leclerc behind.

For Ferrari, the race was difficult. Leclerc was involved in several duels with Sainz and Piastri, which affected the management of the tires. Lewis Hamilton, who started from last position, managed to recover ground and finished in eighth place.

In the overall drivers' standings, Verstappen equals Piastr with 366 points, while Lando Norris remains at the top with 390 points and is the only contender who can mathematically close the title fight in the next race in Qatar.

In the constructors' standings, Mercedes gains eight points over Red Bull after McLaren's disqualification and brings the gap to 40 for second place. Ferrari remains in fourth place with 378 points, further losing ground to its direct rivals.
