The race for the top spot in Serie A remains open and with different scenarios in the final weeks of the season. Currently, Inter leads the standings with 6 points more than Milan and 7 more than Napoli, while there are still 8 matches available, which translates into a maximum of 24 possible points.

In this situation, there is also the possibility that the three main teams, Inter, Milan and Napoli, end the season with equal points in first place.

In such a case, the regulations provide for the use of a separate classification based on the direct matches between them. The team ranked third in this mini-classification is eliminated, while the top two play a decisive match for the title.

Referring to the current results between these teams, Milan leads with 9 points, Napoli has 4, while Inter only 1 point. This means that, in the event of a draw on points, Inter would be left out and the title would be decided in a direct confrontation between Milan and Napoli. According to the current rule, the match would take place at the home ground of the team ranked higher between the first two, which in this case would be “San Siro”.

Even in other scenarios with two teams tied, the location of the match changes. If Napoli and Inter were in first place, the match would be played at the “Maradona” stadium. If it were Milan and Inter, the match would take place at the “San Siro”, with the red and black club hosting.

In the history of Serie A, such a match has only been played once, in 1964, when Bologna won 2-0 against Inter. The decisive match formula was abolished in the 2005-2006 season and has been restored starting from the 2022-2023 season.

Meanwhile, the same situation is not foreseen for the Champions League zone. In the event of a tie on points, the ranking will be determined by direct results.

In this respect, Como has a 7-point advantage over Juventus and Roma, who have 4 points each. This means that Como would secure qualification for the Champions League in the event of a draw with these teams.
