Italy expects World Cup qualification as a "gift", the reason is... war  

Iran has secured on-field qualification for the 2026 World Cup, but its participation remains in doubt due to the geopolitical situation.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has expressed confidence in participation, but developments in the Middle East complicate the situation.

Tensions with Israel and military operations in the region create uncertainty about the team's travel and stay in the U.S. The Iranian national team is scheduled to play in American cities, but there is currently no clarity on the realization of these matches.

Iran's sports minister, Ahmad Donyamali, has expressed doubts about participation since March last year. FIFA has not yet set a deadline for a possible withdrawal.

In the event of exclusion, Italy is considered the main candidate to fill the vacant spot. With a rich history, international prestige and a high ranking among the non-qualified teams, Italy is seen as the most likely option.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
