Losing the World Cup? FIFA makes decision on Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo will be part of Portugal in the opening match of the 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese star was sent off with a red card in the match against Ireland during the qualifying phase, after an elbow strike in the direction of an opposing player.

The episode sparked much discussion and raised doubts about the possibility of the striker missing several important matches with the national team. Initially, there was a scenario that the punishment could last up to a three-match suspension, which would seriously jeopardize his presence in the group stage of the World Cup.

However, after reviewing the incident, FIFA's disciplinary committees decided to punish the player with only a one-match suspension. This measure was applied in Portugal's match against Armenia, allowing the matter to be finally closed before the tournament. Ronaldo is thus clear of any punishment and fully available for the start of next summer's major tournament.
