Nowadays, the traditional costumes of Gjirokastra are being produced by very few embroiderers . Eli Zhulati is one of the only ones in this city who has preserved the tradition for years. Since childhood, she has started working with small materials, and then important and valuable elements for Albanian culture.

The constant requests for a traditional Gjirokastra costume have led her to focus entirely on this craft, which she says is both beautiful and challenging. For a traditional dress of the area or other characteristic elements of Gjirokastra, more requests come from outside the city, as well as from foreigners.

"What I'm working on is a request from a girl studying in America. She wants to appear in a traditional costume at the end of the school year. Usually, the most requests come from Albanians living abroad; they make costumes part of their joys and celebrations," Zhulati tells CNA.

In order not to harm the heritage and to remain faithful to the original models, Zhulati studied various historical literature for a long time. There are 8 ethnographic areas in Gjirokastra. All the garments have their own difficulty, but as the work is rewarded with thanks, it becomes easier for the artisans and more beautiful every day. /CNA
