Hepatitis, an insidious disease/ 300 million people infected

Hepatitis is an insidious disease that has no specific symptoms, it is detected in the early stages only by tests, so it is recommended that every adult be tested for hepatitis B and C at least once in their life, emphasized professor Ivana Milosevic, infectious disease gastroenterologist, professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade and deputy director of the Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases of the SCK.

"Despite the entrenched opinion that the disease spreads only among specific risk groups, the possibility of infection is possible everywhere in many life situations in which the integrity of the skin is compromised, such as tattoos and some beauty treatments, but it can also be transmitted during pregnancy from the mother to the child", she said.

In the world more than 300 million people live with hepatitis. The death toll from hepatitis is on the rise, and more than 1.3 million lives are lost each year as a result of hepatitis B and C infection./ CNA
