On the 108th anniversary of the declaration of Korça as an "Autonomous Province", the District Council organized a series of activities dedicated to the most important event that marked the country's history.

On December 10, 1916, the Albanian Autonomous Republic of Korça was founded, after the fall of the city under the control of the French during the First World War, which lasted until 1920.

On this marked day, a solemn ceremony took place near the bust of Themistokli Gërmenji, where his patriotic figure was honored by leaders of Korça institutions, political parties, leaders of the district municipalities and family members of the martyrs.

The Chairman of the District Council, Erjon Nexhipi, says that a number of activities are planned on this day, including historical conferences for this event, exhibitions, folklore festival and more.

"The proclamation of the Autonomous Province of Korça was one of the events that marked the history of the country. This year we have planned a series of activities, which include historical conferences for this event, the solemn ceremony of the bust of Themistocles Germenji, with the exhibition of collectors from this period. then we will continue with the activities with the folklore groups of the Region, to finalize it with the Regional Folklore Festival, which we intend to turn into a tradition of annually."

For collector Mirgen Shamblli, today's exhibition is one of the exhibitions where many documents and materials are being published for the first time. He shows that the subject matter is broad, starting with the creation of patriotic squads, the declaration of the Autonomous Province, up to the French army, banknotes and postage stamps. The Korça collector would single out the Monumental Tomb of Themistocles Germenji, to whom it has been dedicated as a pedestal by the city of Korça.

"Almost all the documents and photographs brought to this exhibition are published for the first time. The materials begin with the creation of patriotic detachments, continue with the proclamation of the Autonomous Province. The topic expands with the French, Albanian army, banknotes, postage stamps, taxes. We can say that the Autonomous Region of Korça functioned as a small state during World War I. From the exhibition, the materials of which I have collected for a long time 20 years ago, I would single out the monumental tomb of Themistocles Gërmenji, dedicated by the city of Korça."

For Ardi Karanxha, COD coordinator, the exhibition contains documents belonging to a four-year period starting from 1916 to 1920, which also includes the end of the First War. Among other things, personal artifacts of Themistokli Gërmenji and other co-authors of this Republic were also displayed in this exhibition.

"The documents belong to a 4-year period from the establishment of the autonomous province of Korça to 1920, which corresponds to two years after the end of the First War. It contains written documents, photographs or other various artifacts such as maps showing some types of foundation dimensions, military photographs, rules of conduct, and even personal artifacts of Themistocles Digger and the co-authors of this Republic."

On the 108th anniversary of the declaration of Korça as an autonomous province, after the solemn ceremony honoring Themistokl Gërmenji and the exhibition of collectors, there was also a parade of folkloric groups from the southeast, who showed the tradition with the folk costumes of the respective areas. The exhibition was held near the premises of the Flag House, while this afternoon there will also be a regional folklore festival, which will become a tradition in Korça./ CNA
