Zhupa accuses Butrint: Resorts are being built on 800 hectares of land
Ina Zhupa

The Deputy of the Democratic Party, Ina Zhupa, in a statement to the media, accused the government of the constructions being done in Butrint Park.

According to her, some time ago with a decision of the Council of Ministers for the review of protected areas, 800 hectares were removed which are now being built as resorts.

"I am right here in Butrint Park to denounce that what you see here behind me and if that law passes, it will be a construction site. It will be the site of the next oligarch or the next strategic investor chosen by the government of Edi Rama. The law does not set limits, it turns all protected areas into areas where construction and economic activity can take place," Zhupa said.

Full statement:

We are located in the National Park of Butrint, only some time ago with a decision of the Council of Ministers for the review of protected areas, 800 hectares were removed which are now being built resorts.

With the same decision, the Council of Ministers removed from the protected areas in Albania about 2935 hectares, but this is not enough for the appetites of the oligarchs and government clients. The review of protected areas for their construction and economic plans was insufficient.

Precisely in this direction, the 12 deputies, puppets of Edi Rama, have proposed changing the law on protected areas, requesting that economic activity and construction activity be allowed in protected areas by law. Paving the way for once and for all the destruction of these protected areas to build resorts, hotels, casinos, businesses and everything that interests you power clients.

I am right here in Butrint Park to denounce that what you see here behind me and if that law passes, it will be a construction site. It will be the square of the next oligarch or the next strategic investor chosen by the government of Edi Rama.

The law does not set limits, it turns all protected areas into areas where construction and economic activity can take place.

The damage will be irreparable throughout Albania. It will be a tremendous damage that destroys the environment, flora, fauna, our historical, environmental, cultural heritage, landscape and natural beauty. But also an irreparable damage that happens to the citizens who will damage their lungs by destroying the environment of this country.

The ambitions and needs of the oligarchs are great since all the urban spaces have already been exhausted and they will move to the spaces of the protected areas. This law does nothing but turn protected areas into protected areas only on paper because in reality they can be destroyed.

Therefore, I take the opportunity today from Butrint Park, one of the areas that is at risk with this law, to call on all government organizations, experts, specialists and above all all citizens to unite against this initiative and not let me pass.

It will be a tremendous harm to Albania, to our country, to our health and I will turn Albania into a big concrete construction site and will eventually destroy everything about protected areas in Albania./ CNA
