The Democratic Party's coordinator for Tirana, Ilir Alimehmeti, spoke this afternoon regarding the partial elections that will be held in 5 municipalities in the country on November 9.

The campaign for these elections started today, while Alimehmeti said that the mayoral elections in Cërrik, Tepelena, Berat, Vlorë and Mat should have been held in May. In a connection with Syri TV, he said that these municipalities were left without leaders for more than the legal deadlines provide.

"First, we need to understand why these elections came about. They should have been held on May 11. In these municipalities, there were mayors who had resigned since then, while others had problems with the justice system. The respective municipalities were left without mayors for longer than the legal deadlines ," he said.

Further during his speech, Alimehmeti also spoke about the race for the municipality of Tirana, where the opposition has come out in support of the independent candidate, Florjan Binaj. The figure of the latter, according to Alimehmeti, united the entire opposition. He stated that the growing support for his candidacy came because the citizens have understood the abuse that has been done to them by the socialist government.

"Very quickly the polls went head to head. This is because the dissatisfaction is extremely high. That they are being abused by the socialists, this is clear to the people. Manastirliu's campaign is over, he showed his campaign. Mr. Binaj's campaign has not yet started. It is expected to rise even more in the coming days. People are very clear about what has been stolen, they were simply waiting for an alternative. All the moves to postpone the date are not working. We will expose the figure of Florjan Binaj more and more. His figure did what we could not do, unite the opposition around his figure. We know that the confrontation is not easy, but we are not afraid", the democrat said. /CNA
