Veliaj, in prison/ Rama: Tirana cannot be a headless body

Today, in his podcast Flasim, Prime Minister Edi Rama once again commented on the Constitutional Court's decision regarding Erion Veliaj.

First, Rama said that the decision made it clear that he had not seized all the powers.

Further, the Prime Minister came to Erion Veliaj's defense, saying that he could be tried while free.

Rama said that Tirana cannot be a headless body and that it needs its own elected representative.

"First of all, it seems, and it's not the first time that it seems to everyone who wants to see it, that I haven't seized all the powers.

This is quite clear and is a good thing that even those who actually oppose it not on the basis of truths but on the basis of untruths must accept.

Secondly, if Tirana will not have elections until 2027 and the Constitutional Court thinks that the mayor of Tirana cannot leave except through elections, then here we are faced with a double disproportion.

The disproportion of keeping him in prison to the detriment of his freedoms and constitutional rights as a person and as elected to lead the city, but also the disproportion to the detriment of the Constitutional right of the people of the capital to be served by their elected representative.

Third, logically, any normal person who does not see in the Constitutional Court's position a blind stance against the government but rather great harm against Tirana, but sees a firm, principled stance, cannot help but expect that with the same principle when judging his detention, the Constitutional Court will return Erion Veliaj to duty to continue the legal process in a free state or not. It seems to me that this is the most normal thing.

Now the first and second are certain, the third point remains to be seen. I want to emphasize that whatever has been said, they have not told the truth regarding the reason for the dismissal of the mayor by the government as a result of the decision taken by the SP in the Municipal Council. Because the truth is very simple, Tirana must be managed.

"Tirana cannot be a headless body. The capital of Albania needs its chosen one at the helm. Whoever has a hand in helping to resolve this absurd impasse must remember that beyond all other conspiracy theories, the capital cannot be treated as an orphan for years. This is a scandal in itself for which the city pays a cost and the citizens pay an unfair cost every day," Rama said./ CNA
