Rama's double standard

Since February 10, following the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj, Rama's attitudes towards justice have changed.

The Prime Minister, who once refused to comment on the decisions of the judiciary, saying that it is independent and that politics has taken its hands off it, and that it is free to do its work independently, launched harsh attacks on the prosecutor and judge in the Erion Veliaj case.

"Kamikazes, right-wing extremists, are influenced by the scum of the swamp" are the most frequent statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama in recent weeks since Mayor Erion Veliaj was sent to prison on two serious charges of corruption and laundering of criminal proceeds, criminal offenses for which he risks up to 15 years in prison.

Prime Minister Edi Rama is acting with double standards. Our Prime Minister has not had the same attitude towards SPAK where the leader of the DP Sali Berisha was left under house arrest. Not for the arrest of former President Ilir Meta, not even for Ahmetaj or the other socialist officials who ended up in prison.

The nail in the coffin remained with the arrest of Veliaj. At this moment, the prime minister decided to break all standards and launched a barrage of attacks on prosecutors and judges, with intimidating language that was widely criticized by the EU and other justice institutions, and again declared that he would not take back a single word of what he had said.

Rama calls the arrest of Veliaj a decision without a trial, while there are two decisions for the latter. He calls the 24 security measures for UBT lecturers without a trial, while he has not maintained the same standard for Berisha, Meta, Ahmetaj, or others. Of the 24 measures he speaks of, only some are in prison and the truth is that the State Police conducted the investigation and is the one that referred it to SPAK.
