"Rama should enforce the law"/ DP councilors in Tirana Municipality

Democratic Party councilors in the Municipality of Tirana have demanded the dismissal of Erion Veliaj.

The head of the Democratic Party councilors in the Municipality of Tirana, Ilir Alimehmeti, stated during a conference that they are demanding a motion with debate for the dismissal of Veliaj, who has been in Durrës prison since February 10.

Alimehmeti said that it is a fact that Veliaj is in custody in Durrës only for part of the damage he has caused to the citizens of Tirana.

Alimehmeti added that Rama should implement the law and immediately dismiss Veliaj, paving the way for legal procedures.

"We are today in a situation where the municipality of Tirana has had the mayor in Durrës prison since February 10th and the Municipal Council is having a routine meeting today, not with the necessary emergency, where we have made our clear demands for changes to the agenda on the following points.

We know very well and it is a fact that Veliaj is in custody in Durrës only for part of the damage he has caused to the citizens of Tirana and we have requested his dismissal from office.

Considering all the scandals, investigations and abuses involving millions of euros by the Tirana municipality, I recall here the case of the non-existent incinerator, or the benefit of municipal funds through the 5D scheme, as well as the alienation of municipal funds for personal gain.

It is also a fact that Rama, after crocodile tears, usurped the Tirana municipality, and this is an unconstitutional act that the prime minister committed by his own decision.

The Prime Minister has no authority to go and notify the acting mayor, a function that belongs to the Municipal Council, and he is doing this usurpation because he is concerned about himself and his mandate, as well as the relationship he will have with the judiciary.

"We demand that Rama implement the law, immediately dismiss Veliaj, paving the way for legal procedures, and not cry about it at night and take his place during the day," said Ilir Alimehmeti. /CNA
