"Albania still has challenges towards the EU"/ Integration expert: The

European integration expert, Gledis Gjipali, analyzed today the country's situation facing the journey towards the EU.

In a television appearance, Gjipali emphasized that although progress has been made in some areas, thanks to concrete policies undertaken in Albania, the demand for democratic standards and performance remains high.

According to the expert, beyond all elements, the fight against corruption remains the biggest challenge.

"Some chapters could be closed in the near future, especially those with less European legislation, if the IBAR report is approved. Albania has made progress in foreign policy, thanks to early harmonization with EU standards. Germany is the main donor of Albania's integration over the last two decades, recalling the Berlin Process initiative. However, this support is also accompanied by higher demands for democratic standards and performance. The objective of closing negotiations by 2027 and membership in 2030 remains challenging, requiring a significant increase in the pace of reforms. At the current pace, a very positive report from the European Commission is not expected for this year. The fight against corruption is the "Achilles heel" for Albania", - said the expert./CNA
