Law on Referendums/ Taulant Balla presents the draft: We are committed

The head of the SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, has explained the mechanism of referendums according to the Constitution, emphasizing that a referendum is the way through which the people exercise their sovereignty over a particular issue.

According to Balla, the government could call a referendum to gauge citizens' stance on a specific issue or to ratify an agreement.

He also clarified the role of the Constitutional Court, which is responsible for the preliminary review of issues that will go to referendum. The filter that the Constitution has established for this process is precisely the Constitutional Court.

However, Balla emphasizes that the CC does not have the right to assess the political importance of the case, but only its compliance with the Constitution.
