"Healthcare is being destroyed"/ Shehu: Rama only promises word games,

Democratic MP Tritan Shehu reacted today after Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today that the health budget in 2026 will be over 1 billion euros.

Through a post on social media, Shehu accuses Rama that his promises are just word games and not reality.

Shehu adds that with the situation created in the country, the health sector is being destroyed, doctors are leaving and citizens are suffering.

"Healthcare - Rama "promises" only word games today, in reality: even deeper poverty

Thinking that people don't know how to count, he boasts that the health budget for 2026 will be 1 billion euros.
But then, in a low voice, he whispers, as if not to be heard, that this amount also includes the social protection part, which is covered by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

The calculations show that the value of 1 billion euros represents about 3.8% of GDP for health and social protection.
The split between these two sectors is about 57% for health and 43% for social protection.
In reality, this means that only about 2.2% of GDP remains for health, falling below the 2025 level, even if PPP projects are included.

Thus, Albania continues to have the poorest health budget on the European continent.

Even within this figure, Rama does not clarify whether direct contributions are included, which are about 0.8% of GDP.
We hope they are not included, because they are not part of the state budget.
But if they are included, then the real health budget remains only 1.4% of GDP, a level that represents African poverty.

According to the WHO, the budget for health alone, for countries with an economic level like Albania, should be no less than 4% of GDP.
While we are and remain far below this level, that is, in conditions of deep poverty in financing health.
And yet, Rama boasts!

But the numbers speak for themselves. There is no room for boasting, only for hanging one's head in shame and accepting failure.
Because the numbers are stubborn, objective, and the assessments are made based on percentages of GDP.

"There is nowhere worse to go: the healthcare system is being destroyed, doctors are leaving, citizens are suffering," Shehu writes./CNA
